Born on November 6, 1982, my first memories as a child were watching my grandmother cook. She would wake up daily before sunrise, do some light cleaning around the house and by the time light was peaking into the windows there was a hot breakfast cooking on the stove. Most mornings I was awaken by the smell of hot sausage patties sizzling on the stove. Those were the days! And after breakfast my grandmother did not leave her kitchen. All day long she would cook and create delicious meals. Her friends would often stop by to visit with her and she always had a hot meal she could share with them. People would love to eat her cooking because they knew she put so much love into it.
The love of cooking is the greatest gift that my grandmother gave to me. Because of her I began cooking at the age of 9 and have not stopped since. After my grandmother passed when I was at the age of 16, I knew that I wanted to carry on her legacy and share with others what she instilled in me – a love for cooking. Though she is not with me physically I often feel her presence spiritually. Some call it a guardian angel. She definitely passed her creativity on to me and others in our family. So without my grandmother there wouldn’t be “Cooking with Aisha.” Aside from God, she is the reason behind it all. Other than cooking I love spending time with my children and my family. I also love fishing and sharing the good news of the Gospel with others. God has been good to me and I pray that through “Cooking with Aisha” others will see my love for God as I demonstrate my love for cooking.
